Astronomers to meet in Wroclaw

Over 131 scientist from around the world will meet in Wroclaw on June 23-27 to attend the Helas NA5 Workshop conference devoted to the interpretation of astroseismisic data. The main organizer of the event is Wroclaw University.


The cause for the holding of such conference is enormous progress achieved over recent decades in observations of stellar oscillations. Massive photometric surveys provided a wealth of data on various types of pulsating variables which has not yet been fully explored. Interpretation and exploitation of existing data in the context of stellar physics is very much lagging behind, organizers have said.

The asteroseismic meeting includes debates on current and future observational projects as well as on new results for all types of multiperiodic pulsators, but the main focus will be set on what can be learned about stars from their variability. AA
