Germany positive on Eastern Partnership and WW2 museum

Germany reacted positively to Poland's and Sweden's proposal of an Eastern Partnership programme in the EU and the erection of a World War Two Museum in Gdanbsk, Karl-Georg Wellmann from the German CDU party told PAP Friday in Berlin.

The programme, foreseeing expanded cooperation between the EU and its eastern neighbours, is to be the main theme of German chancellor Angela Merkel's Monday talks in Gdansk.
Wellmann said Poland was "an important player" in EU eastern policy and assured the German government welcomed the Easter Partnership project. We're pleased to see Poland take more responsibility for European eastern policy, a policy we need, he noted.

Wellmann also reminded that Germany may support the construction of a World War Two Museum in Gdansk but needed more details on the project.

As soon as we have more details we'll look at the idea and sit down with Polish authorities to find ways in which we could support it, the German MP stated.

The idea to erect a World War Two Museum in Gdansk came from Polish PM Donald Tusk. MB
