Paper: Kremlin historians falsify history

Russians have presented Poland with a list of 14 problems that in their opinion make it impossible to reach an agreement on the past. Most of the problems are pure historical lies suggesting that in the era of Lenin and Stalin Soviets were victims of Poles and not Poles of Soviets, writes Dziennik daily.

Russians claim that Poles committed a crime on Soviet POWs kept in Poland after the 1920 Polish-Bolshevik war. They blame Poland for complicity in breaking out of WW2 by the 1938 annexation of Zaolzie, the then disputed area between Poland and Czechoslovakia west of Cieszyn, south Poland.
The daily also writes that Russians blame Poles for the fact that WW2 lasted five years as they attribute the delay in victory over Hitler to the Polish emigre government in London failure to cooperate with Stalin.

The document was presented Thursday to the 1st meeting of the Polish-Russian commission for tackling difficult issues. The group was reactivated to reach a compromise on common history. It was supposed to deal with such issues like the 1940 Katyn crime, Ribbentrop - Molotov Pact or the Soviet participation in martial law imposition in Poland in 1981.

None of the said questions was included in the Russian list. Russians demand from Poland the explanation to its diabolic role in the formation of defence alliances in the 1920s and 1930s.

The Russian position astonished historians, writes the paper. The Russian list does not contain a shade of truth, stressed Professor Andrzej Kunert. Historians and diplomats share the same opinion: the document is the Russian retaliation for Poland's tough demand for settling accounts with the Katyn crime. A few days ago a Russian court rejected a petition of the Katyn Families (families of murdered officers and intelligentsia) for the victims rehabilitation. KM
