Parliamentarians appeal to Poles to accept organ transplants

The Sejm has launched an appeal to Poles to accept organ transplants as an effective, safe and life-saving method. A draft resolution was presented by Sejm Speaker Bronislaw Komorowski during a press conference on Tuesday. Komorowski stressed the draft was agreed by all parliamentary caucuses in cooperation with specialists from the Polish Union of Transplant Medicine.

This is another initiative to build a positive atmosphere around organ transplants in Poland, Komorowski said and added the resolution would be probably passed on June 13.


The number of people waiting for an organ transplant has been growing. The number of organ transplants from dead donors performed in Poland in 2007 was 45 percent smaller than earlier. The situation has not changed for the better in the first half of 2008.
