Tusk: We will invite Germany to cooperate in creating WWII Museum

Germany will be invited to cooperate in creating a part of World War II Museum's exposition in Gdansk, Poland's PM Donald Tusk said after his Monday's talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"When the concept of the project is ready we will be inviting European partners, also Germany, to cooperate on a part of the exposition, so that the museum can become part of the heritage in which various voices will be taken into account," Tusk said after a joint press conference with the German chancellor.
Angela Merkel offered "any help and assistance" which may be needed in the Museum project. A cornerstone of the World War II Museum in Gdansk will be laid in 2008, on the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.

The museum should remember not only about the World War II but also the events which marked its actual conclusion - the Revolutions of 1989.

"This undertaking should also be the sign of good will for the future, not only the possibly objective truth about the tragic past, but also an attempt at goint to the future," Tusk said.

The German chancellor described the museum as a "very interesting project."

"I promised any help and support of the Germany, if there is such a wish. (...) If Poland asks us, we will willingly participate. I believe it is a very interesting project and an idea, from which we all can learn a lot," Merkel said.

Speaking about German plans for the "Visible sign" expulsion center in Berlin, Tusk said that "consequence, patience and seeking the wisest road" is needed.

"After today's talks, just as earlier, I can see and I know that the German chancellor is looking for a good road to resolve our problem, enlarged in our emotions," Tusk said, adding that he had unchanging confidence in the German chancellor.

Merkel said that the "Visible sign" is a government project which is not about controting history. "On the contrary - we will include it it the whole history which will be devoted to national socialism and which obviously blames it for the suffering inflicted on the whole world," Merkel stressed.
